Benefits of Uponor (Wirsbo) Pex Residential Fire Protection Program

Our PEX residential fire protection program integrates sprinklers with cold water plumbing into one multi-purpose system. This streamlined design reduces installation costs while providing safety and reliability for homeowners.

The Uponor (Wirsbo) fire protection system comprises pipe and EVERLOC® fittings, providing the same proven performance enjoyed for over thirty years in our heating and plumbing applications.

The flexibility and durability of RAUPEX cross-linked polyethylene (PEXa) pipe ensures quick, easy installations, and our unique EVERLOC compression sleeve fitting provides a secure connection, withstanding even the toughest job site conditions.

These components, combined with residential sprinkler heads, meet the requirements for integrated fire protection systems set by the National Fire Protection Association for one- and two-family homes and manufactured housing.

How Does it Work?

Routinely, the integrated system will supply the home’s domestic cold water plumbing needs. In the event of a fire, the system is expected to significantly control the fire in the room of origin. The system is designed to cause less water damage than if the fire department must extinguish the fire.

The sprinkler heads are heat-sensitive, therefore only the sprinklers closest to the fire will activate. The remaining sprinklers will not activate unless there is also a fire in that location. Industry statistics indicate that 90% of all home fires are contained with a single sprinkler.

Because the sprinkler system is integrated with the home plumbing system, homeowners can be assured that if their home plumbing system has water, the fire protection system will be supplied with water as well.

Key Benefits of our Integrated Sprinkler/Plumbing System

  • Lowers construction costs by eliminating redundancy of separate piping systems and reducing installation labor.
  • Assures homeowners that flow is available to their sprinkler system each time a plumbing fixture is used.
  • Improves protection against injury, loss of life, and property damage when used with smoke detectors.
